Claude Code Troubleshooting
The focus of troubleshooting Claude Code is to confirm whether it has obtained the Claude / Anthropic configuration. Do not mix OpenAI compatible addresses, Codex model names, or Gemini Keys into Claude Code.
What should be confirmed first?
| Check items | How to view | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Target Tool | Make sure you are troubleshooting Claude Code, not Codex or Gemini CLI | The configuration files, protocols, and model names of different tools are different. |
| provider Agreement | Claude, Anthropic, and Claude Code are explicitly mentioned in the backend or tutorial | Providers that only offer OpenAI-compatible interfaces may not necessarily support Claude Code |
| Key Type | Use Claude / Anthropic corresponding Key | If the key type is incorrect, it will directly result in a 401 or authentication failure |
| Terminal state | After switching the configuration, reopen the terminal and test again | The old terminal may still be using the environment variables or configurations from before the switch |
Common errors
| Phenomenon | Priority check | Solutions |
|---|---|---|
| The command can be opened, but the request failed | Whether Claude Code has obtained the new configuration | Close the current terminal window and reopen it, then send the shortest test question. After switching via CC-Switch, do not manually modify the same configuration at the same time. |
| 401 / Unauthorized | Key type and integrity | Confirm that you are using the corresponding Key for Claude / Anthropic, do not fill in OpenAI-compatible Key in Claude Code; check for leading and trailing spaces when copying again. |
| 404 / model not found | Claude model name | Fill in exactly as listed in the provider's backend for Claude models, do not change case, hyphens, or version numbers. |
| Connection timeout or no response | Claude Base URL | Check the Claude / Anthropic API address in the backend; providers that only provide OpenAI-compatible addresses may not support Claude Code. |
| Still using the old provider after switching | Terminal session and configuration source | Reopen the terminal and test again; if it still does not take effect, confirm that the current Provider in CC-Switch has been applied to Claude Code. |
Minimal test
When testing, first send a fixed short question, confirm it can respond, then proceed to the real project.

claude "Please reply only: Claude Code configuration test successful" Feedback template
When giving feedback to the provider, write like this
Tool: Claude Code System version: Provider dashboard Base URL: Model ID / model name: Exact error: I have checked: no spaces in the Key / balance is sufficient / model name copied exactly / Base URL copied from the dashboard / terminal reopened
